Shorea is possibly the best wood choice for outdoor furniture. While related to Burma teak, this hardwood grows naturally and plentifully in the Pacific Rim countries, making it considerably less expenisve than teak. Because shorea contains an abundance of natural oils, is dense, heavy and hard, it is highly resistant to rot, bug infestation, wear, and marring. Oxford Garden shorea is imported from Java and Malysia where the governments ensure wise harvesting and fair prices.
Quality construction turns these classic designs and fine raw materials into timeless furniture. The only thing stronger than the wood is the mortise-and-tenon joinery holding it together.
